Artist Statement DAF23

Artist Statement I am passionate about art because I love how even the simplest piece can create emotion and meaning for the viewer. They can communicate a message, be symbolic of a bigger idea, or inspire. In the past year, I focused on nature and looking outward because I wanted to tell stories through my animations. However, this year I decided to go with the them of Visual Delight and the Arts of Daily Life. I decided to choose this theme because I think it fits nicely with Graphic Design; which is what I will be majoring in at Messiah University. This theme is all about the art we see in our daily life that we might overlook. For example, an image on a t-shirt, a brand logo you might see on a bag of chips, or the design on a wedding invitation. This subject peaked my interest and I wanted to learn how I could create this type of visual art for myself. I started my digital art journey with digital modeling my freshman year, then continued to animation my sophomore year. I wor...

Inspiration Post:           I recently came across an artist on YouTube that inspired me. His name is Dédouze and he is a self taught illustrator. He does a lot of work in Blender specifically using grease pencil. Below are some of his animations that are especially unique and sparked my interest.            There are many things I like about this artist's work. One thing in particular is the color pallet that is used pretty consistently in his work. He mainly uses blues and pinks as well as yellow to color, shade, and highlight his scenes. I like how his artwork is not focused on realism and experiments with using colors that would not normally be used to shade or color objects. I also really like how the style is almost sketch like and cartoony. He artwork stands out from anyone else's work and I love how it is able to tell a story in such a short amount of time.          I f...

End of MP3 Presentations Reflection

Krish:          One presentation that inspired me is Krish's work. I liked how he originally was making scene work that was kind of sci fi and then decided to try a different direction by making forest/landscape art. I especially like this finished piece he made. What I like about this piece is that it feels very cohesive but not boring in any way. The colors of the fall leaves along with the cabin and grass create a cozy look and the river adds a nice composition break up of the land. I also am very impressed by the rock and water textures and modeling. Even though I am no longer modeling, I can understand the hard work it takes to make something like this. I can also appreciate the color pallet that this piece has and I hope to also achieve this level of cohesiveness in the colors of my art. Savannah:          Another presentation that stood out to me was Savannah's. I liked how she worked on different things so sh...

Intention Definition & Exploration of Ideas:             This year, I have decided to go for the theme Visual Delight and the Arts of Daily Life. I decided to choose this theme because I think it fits nicely with Graphic Design; which is what I want to focus on this year. This theme is all about the art we see in our daily life that we might overlook. For example, an image on a t-shirt, a brand logo you might see on a bag of chips, or the design on a wedding invitation. These were all carefully designed by digital artists., who paid attention to different elements like typography, branding, and theming. The reason I picked this theme is because I am going to major in Graphic design in college, so I figured it would be a good idea to form a portfolio focusing on it. Planning:      https://pin.it/4H37z0q           This marking period I wanted to try making low poly birds, so I made a Pinterest board...

Reflection Post:         I finally finished the geometric hummingbird that I have been working on for a while. Here is the finished image:          Overall I am pretty happy with how it looks finished. This one by far was the most difficult out of the three birds I made because of how long it took, and how intricate it is compared to the others. I honestly wasn't trying to make this one have so many more shapes than the blue bird, but it just kind of happened. Part of the reason might be because of how many color gradients/transitions I had to make, and part of it might just be the nature of the reference image and pose. The wing and tail feathers took up 80% of my time and were very meticulous, while the head and main body were pretty easy and quick to make because they were something I was already familiar with from the past birds.           One things about this bird that I could improve on is ...

Progress Page:         This week I continued working on the humming bird. This bird is proving more difficult than the the others I made, probably because there are more areas of it's wings that I have to create. These are the tail feathers that I finished in the beginning of the week This is part of the wing I was working on, but I didn't like how it was looking so I redid it. This is what that area looked like after I fixed it. Here is the reference picture I used          This is the most challenging of the birds I have made so far, but I think it is turning out good so far even there are parts I had to redo. The tail feathers is the one of the main reasons this bird is taking so long because it took me almost a week just to make them. This is because all the tail feathers are white and there isn't a huge color variation to each feather. I really had to focus on the shadows and where the light was coming from in order for them t...

Inspiration Post:           One artist that I recent came across on Instagram is Mia Boas. She uses blender to make artwork like 3D diorama scenes of houses. Her artwork is very detailed, and although I am not using blender currently, her artwork still inspires me with my own art. Below are some of her artworks.           I really like how all of the scenes look because they are so cohesive and visually stunning. The color pallet in each of them is very pleasing to look at and aesthetic. I really like how the textures look too, haw the matte texture on most of the items in the scene almost give them a clay look. I also like how every item and furniture piece comes together to tell a story about the room and who is living there. The almost cluttered scenes made up of simplistic object just works for some reason and feels peaceful.          All of these details and emotions that each scene giv...
