 Reflection Page:

I finished making the geometric eastern blue bird that I started last week, and here is the final product:

I am very happy with how the finished product of this bird, and I think it turned out better than the last one I made. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, I made more of an effort to focus on where the light was hitting this bird to make it look more 3D and believable. As a result of paying attention to where the light was coming from, I also became more intentional about what saturation values the triangles should have. For example I understood that the orange part of the bird in the shadow area would actually look more brown than orange because of the saturation. Another thing I tried to add to this bird was a more interesting pose, which was partly just finding a more interesting reference photo, but also making the bird's beak open rather than the closed beak in the reference photo. The last thing I changed (but not intentionally) was using more shapes than the last one I made. This I think allowed me to more accurately choose the colors of each triangle and made it so that the color differences weren't so harsh and rather took more of a gradient look.

Even though I believe I improved from the last bird I made, that does not mean I didn't have trouble creating this blue bird. One thing that I found difficult while making this bird was trying to find the right colors for the bottom left area of the bird where the blue, orange, and white colors all meet. I redid this area quite a few times, but I think it looks good enough in the finished product. Another thing that took me longer to make than last time was the feet. This is because the reference photo I chose for this bird had it's talons kind of curved onto a non-flat surface that would have looked weird if I followed. Instead, I looked at anatomy pictures of bird feet and tried my best to make the position of each claw look realistic. I still think they look a little weird, but I'm not sure why, maybe the scaling of them? I might just be overthinking it, but either way I am satisfied with how the overall bird looks.

This is the reference photo I used
