Inspiration Blog Post:
I recently found this animation about a sentient mushroom on YouTube that I really liked. Its overall an AMAZING animation, but there were a few specific things that inspired me.
This short film was made by the YouTube channel "HEROmation," and was directed by Michael Cawood. Cawood is a British Filmmaker who has won many awards. He started animating in 1994, and has since created various Films, Series, Commercials, VR, and Games. He has earned many 'Best Short Film' and 'Best Animation' awards, plus an Orson Welles Award. His featured films include Bumblebee, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Happy Feet, Pete's Dragon, and Ghostbusters.
There are a few things that inspired me in this animation. One of them was how well emotion was expressed through the animation. This was especially impressive because none of the mushrooms had eyes or mouths. The emotion was created from how the mushroom tilted its head, if it was jumping or not, etc. The lighting during different parts of the animation also contributed to the mood of the scene and created emotion. For example, when the mushroom was sad, the lighting was darker and cooler; and when the mushroom was happy, the lighting was brighter and warmer. Another thing that I liked was how the textures looked on the rock and small patches of grass. They looked very clean and professional looking. All of these things impressed and inspired me.
