Inspiration Page:

Recently, I was inspired by the artist Fernanda Frick. She is an illustrator, animation director, and comic artist from Chile. I found her on YouTube where she posts her short films and trailers made with her independent studio.

One of her short films that specifically inspired me is called "Here's the Plan," which is about a couple who have a dream of running their own baking business, but face some troubles on their journey there.

There were a few things about this short film that inspired me. One thing that inspired me was how smooth the animation was; for the characters, the baking, etc. The animation was very polished and there was no clipping, or sudden movements that weren't purposeful. The character models moved very smoothly whenever they walked, blinked, or moved their hands. When they were baking, the animation of the egg cracking and the piping of the icing was also very smooth. Overall I was inspired to try and make my short animation as smooth as possible. Although I cannot prevent clipping with the tree, I can at least try to avoid it with the hand and the single leaf.

The other thing that inspired me was the lighting and realistic shadows the short film had. Whenever they were in their house, the sunlight from the window provided light and the shadows from the spaces without light were realistic. I thought it was also interesting how they used the lighting to create a mood. For example, in part of the short film where the characters were unhappy, the lighting was more gloomy and dark. But in the times where the characters were happy, the lighting was much more bright and almost glowing at some parts. It inspires me to have purposeful lighting and to also try to achieve a lighting that would be appropriate for the outdoors.
